Writing about Transylvania

Sometimes writing about Transylvania is an interesting occupation, some want to read about travel and some are sticklers for detail and some just don't want another side coming out.

The fact remains that you need to be passionate about writing about Transylvania... and a picture or three won't hurt.

Some Days Transylvania can't Win...

As many of you know I have been receiving an email from a fellow who has a website in regards to Hungary and Romania and if Transylvania should be a part of either one. ( His answer: Hungary due to the cultural genocide of the Hungarian people in Romania. Yes you read that right.)

I have tried to keep neutral in the debate, I believe that my own feelings should not dictate how other relate to the email....

Still one fellow wrote a comment in Spanish, I am of course the centre of the attack (I don't speak Spanish but I can read it well enough) still I did make a sort of mistake in terms of syntax.

I said "Romania is a part of Transylvania" to him I should have said "Transylvania is a part of Romania"

Still I shall explain my meaning here: I believe that the heart and soul of Romania is its great province of Transylvania, and since my family is originally from Transylvania, we believe that Romania ( the soul) is a part of Transylvania.

and yes, I still get that email ever so often, Chris gave the website on the hub I am referring to, I added the email in italics, my comments about it are after, so before saying I know nothing, everyone, please read the whole piece =)

Some days Transylvania can't win.

Romania and Gold

Here I'll throw this question out:

I was debating this at Romania House, here in Vancouver with some friends, and for the most part the biggest question other than the Romanian Royal Family flag we found was :

Is Romania ready for a gold medal?

I think they are... and you?

Thanks Cris about the Great points about Transylvania

This is an image of the Dacia- Roman battles which were fought in Transylvania.
I have to thank Cris for the insight on my hub about Transylvania and Romania. I really should add that to it.
My argument went along the lines of dates, one of which said that Transylvania did not become a part of Romania until 1920, actually it was 1919. Mostly I am am still learning about Dacia.
Still Feel free to take a look at the email.

The Great Hungarian Romanian Transylvania Debate

There is a big debate going on about an email I received in regards to Hungary and Transylvania. I posted parts of it here a while ago but then I also posted the email and my answer to it on hubapges.

Transylvania, Hungary and Romania is the title. My main argument is that they might have a point but the anger and the misinformation is what defeats the writing.

Now many Romanian people have read the email, but point after point only goes to prove the writers point. I am wondering what is with this debate.

Please fill me in on this one.

The Importance of Internet and Transylvania

A friend of mine is in Transylvania for three days on tour, but he's having some trouble with his wireless. it might be just me, but I'd say the mountains are in the way.

Still it does tell em the importance of Internet while in any area. Here we are "hooked" on our Internet, There in Transylvania it seems nicer, slower and somehow more personal, you need an Internet cafe, but these are in the main cities.

He is in the countryside.

So we should all smile and remember that there is an important aspect to Transylvania, and that is the area, is not quite wireless as we might think!

Go Romania!

This is the Romanian team at the Winter Olympics: I found the list on wikipedia.

I must admit, I am hopeful for the Canadian teams I live here after all but still i do hope for a good showing with the Romanian team.

Olympics and Transylvania

Saw the Olympics Opening Ceremony tonight:

Wondering where can I find out where each Romanian athlete is from.

Transylvania Sites and Other Matters

I had asked a little while back about Transylvania sites. This was very successful in my search on Transylvania. Of course I've been finding more sites.

As a result, I've learned different points of view about Transylvania. I admit that my Romanian is far better than my Hungarian. It's enjoyable since it allows so many people to discuss life in Transylvania.

It's the history that changes. The maps are more interesting, but the Transylvania sites follow as such: Dacia, then Roman Empire, then Independent land, then Hungary, then united with Wallachia and Moldavia, then Holy Roman Empire, then Hungary, then the Austrian Empire, then Romania, then half to Hungary, then all back to Romania. Boy that is a lot of territorial movement, and everyone has a voice on that.

Writing The Fine Art of Transylvania

When you write about something people naturally will want to learn more.

It is natural that I write about Transylvania. Transylvania is after all a part of my heritage, and the past not learned is... well not so good.

Although my Romanian is poor, I found this sign to be of interest, the birthplace of Vlad Dracul. Can anyone correct when I suggest it is saying a Romanian ruler?

Why Brasov??

Why Brasov? Because it is so picturesque. It seems so in the present, yet rooted in the past.

Its history is vital, but I can see why people always mention it as a place they need to go and visit when they go to Transylvania. Of course it is on my list.

On Writing About Transylvania

I've been looking at doing something like this for Transylvania:

As such I am doing interviews with people who lived in the area during the Second World War. The face of Transylvania was different then. By 1940 Transylvania was divided between Hungary and Romania.

Still it is a very interesting time, but now I am searching for more... something to do with today. This should be interesting and fun as well.
